I've gotta take a break from the Civil War and I imagine a lot of you are tiring of it too. But there's so much to cover I'll re-engage next week - sometime. Today though we're featuring a really gorgeous Hunk O' Tin from most likely the mid-1960s, the Linemar TWA 707, tail #N731TW. This is a big sucker measuring 16 3/4" (42.5cm) L x 18" (45.7cm) wingspan x 5 1/2" (14cm) H and has several unusual features about it. First, the wings fold in the middle. Normally tin toy airliners of the day had one piece wings which detached from the fuselage for easier packaging into a box. Secondly, this plane has four sets of landing gear: small wheels at the front and rear of the fuselage, and two sets of main landing gear on the wings. Thirdly, the main landing gear are located unprototypically outward on the wings, between the two engine nacelles, instead of more inboard just outside of the fuselage. In any case it's still a terrific toy from The Age of Tin. Enjoy! Bettina & Fritz Berg :-)
