It's no secret I'm a big fan of fire apparatus,especially the vintage type, so when the chance to grab one of these 1950s Hardy Plastics & Chemical Co., horse drawn fire engines came up it was a no-brainer. The toy is based on the old horse drawn, steam pumpers of the 1800s and has a driver and two horses pulling the rig. The whole assembly is made of white hard plastic (HP) with red HP accent parts, and a small metal bell hanging from the eagle. There are normally two more figures which sit on the back end but they are missing from my toy. The pull string which attaches to the very front of the hitch is also missing. the detail is quite nice on these and includes a separately molded, but attached, hose and oil lamp. One rear leg of each horse slips over an axle attached to a spindle which rolls along the ground. When the wagon is pulled and the spindle turns, the horses go up and down. The wagon measures 10" (25.4cm) L x 3 1/2" (8.9cm) W x 3 1/2" (3.9cm) H. Enjoy!
I'm afraid my box is a little shell-shocked! However the main artwork is still pretty nice.
