Fröhliche Weihnachten! Merry Christmas - Advents Kalender's / Calendar's

In honor of my lovely wife Bettina I thought it would be nice to show you some German Advent Kalenders' (or Advent calendar). An Advent Calendar is a special way to count the days in anticipation of the coming of Christmas. Let's let Wikipedia step in and explain some of the particulars:

"The days always overlap with the Christian season of Advent. Despite the name, most commercially available Advent calendars begin on December 1, regardless of when Advent begins, which can be as early as November 27 and as late as December 3. Many take the form of a large rectangular card with "windows" of which there are usually 24: one for each day of December leading up to Christmas Day. The doors are opened starting with the first one. Consecutive doors are opened every day leading up to Christmas. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, poem, a portion of a story (such as the story of the Nativity of Jesus) or a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item. Some calendars are strictly religious, whereas others are secular in content."

Okay, that sums it up pretty good. Today we're featuring the relatively simple kind - cards with small doors which open up to reveal pictures. The scenes of an Old World Christmas are always charming and geared, as one would expect, towards children. I just like the simple art and bright, colorful artwork. The calendars featured today were bought prior to the re-unification of East and West Germany in 1990 and all say "Made in West Germany".  As the word "vintage" simply means 'old' I guess you consider these 'vintage' Advent calendars. I s'pose if you're a 5 year old, anything from 1990 and before is old. To me it's relatively recent history LOL. Oh well, hope you Enjoy!
